Up in the pinkie is a ski resort that has been sitting empty for more than 20 years. I got to explore it a little this year. We couldn’t find a way in any of the buildings – except one set of rooms that someone has apparently been crashing in – and we weren’t going to break in. Hey! We’re not criminals! But we explored the grounds for quite a long time, and looked in a lot of windows. Creeptastic! The beds in all the rooms are made, hotel art still hangs on the walls, ancient televisions still sit on dressers. It was pretty awesome.

Busy couple of weeks on the Compound!

Miss W kicked some County Fair butt this year. The judges Saturday were impressed. The young man who judged her poultry showmanship Sunday was SO impressed he went out of his way to make sure the director told us how fantastic she was. I don’t think it’s possible to be any prouder of this girl. She gave all the credit to her chicken. “She was such a good girl, it was almost like she knew what was going on!” So we stopped on the way home and got her a special wax worm treat. I have such a phenomenal kid. I really do.

I need to just give in and make the time to work on a long exposure series. I’ve talked about my love of long exposures before. I always indulge on Independence Day, and this year was no different. (Pro tip: Lensbaby and Long Exposure don’t mix.)

Yesterday we set out to run an errand. I brought Ripper along for a couple of possible photo ops on the country roads. Unfortunately I only had the 50mm lens with me, because as we were rambling along, we noticed twelvety seven John Deere tractors on the grounds of the Gilmore Car Museum. Well, of course we had to go check it out. We ended up spending the entire day at the museum wandering through the different barns, checking out all the incredibly beautiful cars, and through the tractor show out on the lawn.

Every time I visit someone, I make them do all the touristy stuff in their town. And we always have a blast. I almost never do the touristy stuff at home. Yesterday marked my first ever visit to the Gilmore Car Museum. I’m going to have to go back some time with a different lens or two, no question.

Turned out to be a pretty fantastic Saturday.
