I can’t just sit and watch a program or just sit and read any more.  My hands need to be doing something so I don’t feel like time is wasting away.  So I knit.  Because I like to knit while I read it has to be something I don’t have to think about, so I make scarves or basic hats or work a section of a larger piece that is just straight stockinette.  It also makes text books less excruciating.  They make nice gifts.

We started the day with a photo drive which netted next to nothing.  It was too cold to be out shooting.  We stopped for a while to sled at the arboretum, but the wind made that too chilly to stay long.  Mostly we spent the day cleaning, an endeavor that has left me especially cranky.  I just want big fluffy blankets, tea, knitting and maybe some Buffy.  I am consoled by the fact that I have 2 days left in my weekend and Miss W’s room finally looks habitable again.

Finally.  Friday.  I don’t think I’m the only one who was convinced  that this was the longest week ever.  But, it is over.  Hello 3 day weekend!  And – thanks very much to a hockey tournament tomorrow – there will be no skating.   And that means three whole days of sleeping in.  Unprecedented!  Of course, I’ve reached that point that every parent does, where sleeping in means 8:00am.  You know what I mean.  Even if your kids let you sleep, you can’t do it any more.  That’s alright.  At least I can enjoy my morning tea in my pajamas for a few days.

Today is icy hands, some disappointment and groceries.

I was going to make today’s post all about how horrible my Saturday had turned out to be.  I was going to tell you about the breakfast that didn’t happen and the flat tire on the way to ice skating that made us late and all the other things that were shaping my day.

But then we got home from ice skating and within the hour senseless tragedy was visited upon the people in AZ when a man gunned down Congresswoman Giffords and several of her staff and constituents.

My day?  Small potatoes.
